DONATION TO THE CAMPAIN: VIVE CON DIEGO
ABOUT DIEGO

"Hi ... I'm Diego, I'm 16 years old, three months ago they detected a type of acute leukemia and I need a bone marrow transplant."
(vivecondiegowebpage)

Alma worked on her medium sized wood panel created specifically for the “Vive con Diego” cause. She layered the piece with brown and green oil paint. She created a vibrant monochrome and colored her work with a dramatic gestural presence. Alma speaks allegorically through his visuals, she identifies gender, love, loss and also the spiritual, emotional and physical presence. Lovely wings rest on his back side in a reference to the Mexican butterflies with a deep feeling of family tradition. Even if much of her work is personal, she mixed narrative and metaphor to create the meaning that shaded with ambiguity that invites multiple interpretations.

Diego is 16 years old. He has Leukemia a cancer of white blood cells. White blood cells help your body fight infections. Blood cells are formed in the bone marrow. However, in leukemia the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells. These cells replace healthy blood cells and make it difficult for blood to perform its function. In acute lymphocytic leukemia, also called acute lymphoblastic leukemia, there are too many white blood cells of a specific type called lymphocytes or lymphoblasts. This leukemia is the most common cancer in children.
